On September 25, 1906, the Centennial Book says a hurricane demolished the frame building and includes this image. At this time there were 134 members.
The records are not clear on when a replacement building was erected but 10 years later a building was blown off its foundation. The book includes a photo of the relocated building (see one of the following pages in this series) that has a steeple. The buildings are somewhat different. [Perhaps a more careful reading of the book will clarify what is confusing to this writer.]
NOAA’s Historical Hurricane website includes in September of 1906 a Category 3 hurricane with maximum wind speeds of 105 knots coming on shore at the Alabama/Mississippi line and proceeding north. The property is only 3.7 miles from the state line.
